Biography
Dr. Md Jakiul Islam is a Professor in the Department of Fisheries Technology and Quality Control at the Faculty of Fisheries, Sylhet Agricultural University, where he has been working since 2010. He earned his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from Bangladesh in 2009 and 2010, respectively. Later, he pursued another M.Sc. in Marine and Lacustrine Science from Belgium. His doctoral research was conducted in Germany, supported by the DAAD Doctoral Fellowship. Beyond academia, Dr. Islam has contributed as a national consultant for the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and INFOFISH. His research interests encompass aquaculture, fisheries, and fish processing, with a strong focus on quality control and the impacts of climate change on aquatic vertebrates and invertebrates. In the realm of climate change, his work explores how extreme climatic events influence the metabolic, molecular, and physiological responses of commercially important aquaculture species. Additionally, he is investigating mitigation strategies to enhance fish resilience during such extreme conditions.
