Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam was born on the twenty-seventh day of May of 1958 in Vill: Sutia Khali, P.O Sutia Khali, Upazilla: Sadar and District: Mymensingh, Bangladesh. He is the fourth child (six brothers and three sisters) of Md. Zamir Uddin and Zamila Khatun. He attended primary and secondary education at Boira Govt. Primary School and Kayotkhali Railway High School, Mymensingh from 1963 to 1973. In 1975, he completed his higher secondary education in science (English Medium) from Ananda Mohan Govt. College, Mymensingh. He obtained Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, Bangladesh in 1979 (held in 1981) and Master of Science in Anatomy in December 1980(held in 1983) and Ph.D. in Anatomy from the same University in 2006. In the very first, he employed as a Scientific Officer at Livestock Research Institute, Mohakhali, Dhaka-1212 under the Directorate of Livestock Services belongs to the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, Govt. of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh. On 22nd April 1996, Sylhet Govt. Veterinary College, Sylhet, Bangladesh employed him as an Associate Professor in the Department of Anatomy & Histology. On 6th June 2002, he became Professor and the Sylhet Agricultural University employed him as a Professor in the same department on 2nd November 2006. So far he published 18 scientific articles in various national and international journals. He attended a total of 38(Thirty-Eight) training courses/workshops/external peer reviewers/seminars at home and abroad. In 1980, he married Rokeya Begum. He blessed with three sons and two daughters.
