Honorable professor, MD. MATIAR RAHMAN HOWLADER was born on the 31st day of December, 1957 in Mollikerber, Bagerhat, Bangladesh. He is 5th among the ten children of Mr. Hashem Ali and Mrs. Rahimunnesa.

 

He finished his higher secondary education from Sundarbon Adarsha Government College, Khulna in 1975 and obtained his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and Master of Science (MSc) degree from the Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh in 1979 and 1980, respectively. In 1982, he was awarded a fellowship grant by the National Science and Technology Division, Ministry of Education, Government of  Bangladesh . In the same year he passed the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS-Livestock cadre) examination and was appointed Upazila Livestock Officer (ULO) at Chitalmari, Bagerhat. In 1983 also, he was appointed Senior Officer by the Bangladesh Krishi Bank (BKB) where   he worked as Branch Manager and Senior Officer till 1987. In 1987 he became Scientific Officer (SO) at Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI). A fellowship grant awarded to him in 1990 by the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC)/USAID enabled him to pursue a PhD and University of the Philippines at Los Banos, Philippines and completed his PhD in 1993. In 1991 he became Senior Scientific Officer (SSO) at BLRI. He left BLRI in 2000. He became Associate Professor of Physiology at Sylhet Government Veterinary College, Sylhet, Bangladesh in 2000. In 2003 he was appointed Professor of Physiology in the same institute.  In 2006, the Government of Bangladesh established Sylhet Agricultural University based on the Sylhet Government Veterinary College where he has been working as Professor of Physiology.

 

He is happily married to Arena with whom he blessed two sons, Imran and Inteha.
