Biography

Md. Zillur Rahman was born on 2nd May 1989 in a Muslim family of Cumila district, Bangladesh. He is the son of Md. Abul Kalam Azad and Mst. Farida Begum. He passed Secondary School Certificate examination from Gangamandal Raj Institution and Higher Secondary School Certificate examination from Cumilla Victoria Govt. College in 2004 and 2006, respectively from Cumilla board, Bangladesh. He obtained BS (Ag) and MS in Agronomy from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Gazipur, Bangladesh. Mr. Rahman is an agronomist who started his professional career as a Lecturer in the Department of Agronomy and Haor Agriculture, Faculty of Agriculture, Sylhet Agricultural University, Sylhet-3100, Bangladesh on 1st January 2013. He is now an Assistant Professor of the said department of Sylhet Agricultural University, Bangladesh since 2015. Mr. Rahman went to the Plant Breeding Institute Narrabri, under the University of Sydney, Australia as a visiting Researcher where he studied root system architecture of diverse faba bean genotypes under drought. He also obtained his MSc in Organic Agriculture degree (2019) from Wageningen University & Research with the chair group of Farming System Ecology and Centre for Crop Systems Analysis with Netherlands Fellowship Program (NFP). His Master's Research programs were involved in understanding the role of strip intercropping (cereal-legume mixtures) on the aboveground and belowground architecture of companion crops and the response of foliar N on yield and yield contributing attributes of wheat. He has awarded a VLIRUOS fellowship from Ghent University, Belgium to participate in a summer course under the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering in 2016. He has been awarded Lee Foundation Grants for participating Rice: Research to Production organized by IRRI, the Philippines from July 29, 2019, to 17th August 2019. .Current activities: • Planning, designing, executing and monitoring of personal and departmental research projects. • Supervising undergraduate and graduate research students at the Department of Agronomy & Haor Agriculture, Sylhet Agricultural University, Sylhet. • Collaborative research works with research organizations, extension and other agricultural institutes for disseminating research output and technology. • Providing training to the framers and farm managers on crop management, mitigation of climate change effects and seed production activities. Mr. Rahman is happily married to Shirin Akter and blessed with a daughter Aiza Wasnah.
