Biography

Dr. Mitu Chowdhury was born on 7th July, 1969 in Chittagong, Bangladesh. He obtained B.S.S (Hons.) and M.S.S in Sociology from University of Chittagong, Bangladesh in 1993 and 1995 respectively. He also received his M.Phill (coursework) and PhD in Sociology from the same university in 2008 and 2015 respectively.

He is now working as a Professor (Grade-1), at the Department of Rural Sociology and Development, Sylhet Agricultural University, Sylhet-3100, Bangladesh. He has been serving as the Chairman of the Department since August 2011. He served as the Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Economics and Business Studies, Sylhet Agricultural University, Bangladesh from September 2015 to September 2017 and Proctor from 2014-2015.

In addition, he has been serving as the the Director of the Students Counseling and Guidance, Sylhet Agricultural University since 15 September 2019 to July 2020. Professor Chowdhury’s research focuses on the Research Methodology, Rural and Urban Sociology, Urban and Industrial Sociology, Sociology of Comparative Social Structure and Development, Social Demography, Criminology. His more than 22 articles have already been published in different national and international journals. He has also participated in several conferences, training, workshop and seminars. He is concurrently associated with multiple professional organizations and societies as well.

Professor Chowdhury was awarded Sir Jagadis Chandra Bashu Smriti Sammanana, Shere-E-Bangla Samajik Sangskritik Foundation award and Shere-E-Bangla A.K. Fazlul Haque Gobeshana Parishad award for his outstanding contribution in education sector.
