Biography

Tahmina Akter has more than 10 years of professional experience in the Agricultural Engineering sectors such as different water management issues including the selection of irrigation and drainage methods in farmer's field, the extension of various types of farm machinery for precision agriculture, statistical analysis of meteorological data for predicting climate change impact which subsequently helps to estimate crop water requirement and crop planning, hydrological modeling for flood forecasting and river basin management, etc. She earned B.Sc. Agricultural Engineering degree in 2007 and M.S. in Irrigation and Water Management in 2010, both with Grade 'A' from Bangladesh Agricultural University. During her thesis semester in 2009, she stood first in a competitive job recruitment exam, and consequently, she started her professional career as an 'Agricultural Engineer' under the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. After two years of working, Engineer Akter joined as a 'Lecturer' in the department of Irrigation and Water Management under the faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology at Sylhet Agricultural University. Then, she did her second master's in Water Resources Engineering from the Katholic University of Leuven and Vrije Universiteit of Brussels, Belgium with the most prestigious VLIR-UOS scholarship. She has been served in the AET faculty from its establishment since 2012 at Sylhet Agricultural University. Her recent research focuses on the impact of climate and land-use changes on hydrology, flood prediction, and river basin management, advanced irrigation technologies, etc.
