Biography

Early Life and Education
Dr. Howlader is a Bangladeshi academic, born in 1957 in Village-Mollikerber, Upazila-Rampal of Bagerhat district. He obtained his PhD from the prestigious University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB), Philippines in 1993. He graduated with DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) in 1979 and obtained his MSc degree in 1980 from Bangladesh Agricultural University. He finished his HSC in 1975 from Sundarban Adarsha Government College at Khulna and SSC in 1973 from Fulhata High School at Morrelgonj of Bagerhat district. Dr Howlader received several fellowships and awards through his academic career. Besides the formal degree programs, he attended several professional trainings offered by reputed institutes in home and abroad. He visited several countries for education, research, training, and tourism.

Contribution in Great Liberation War in 1971
In 1971, at the call of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, he left his home and joined in the Mukti Bahini at the age of 13 years and took guerilla training under Major Ziauddin, the sub-sector commander of sector 9 at the deep forest of Sundarban. Little Howlader, joined in several operations against Pakistan Army and Rajakar Bahini of which the front fights against Pakistan Army at Rayenda fight and at Mathbaria fight were historic and notable. As a young boy freedom fighter Dr. Howlader has been cherishing the dreams of the Father of the Nation through his whole life.

Leadership in Research and Academic Positions
In 36 years long professional career, he has been actively got involved in teaching and research for about 32 years. He became Associate Professor and Chairman of the Department of Physiology in 2000 and Professor in 2003 of Sylhet Agricultural University where he is serving till date. He was Dean (Faculty of Fisheries) for 4.5 years and Dean (Faculty of Veterinary, Animal and Biomedical Sciences) for 2 years. He was Direcrtor (Research) for 4 years. He was Director (Teaching Veterinary Hospital) for about 2 years. Dr. Howlader has an excellent track record of research productivity. He has authored or co-authored 90 peer-reviewed journal articles and one book. Besides, he supervised 2 Ph.D. (current students) and 53 Master students. He served as Project Director, Principal Investigator and co-investigator of different research projects. Further, Dr. Howlader contributes as Chief Editor, Editor and a reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Howlader has worked for Sylhet Agricultural University administration in various capacity, including Syndicate Member, Convener of Deans Council,. He served SAU teachers council as President for four times, and currently, he is the member of the executive committee of the same council. He was the Director, Student Counseling and Guidance of SAU from March 16, 2015 to December 2018.

The Honorable Chancellor anf President of The Peoples’ Republic of Bangladesh appointed Dr.Howlader as the Vice Chancellor of Sylhet Agricultural University for a tenure of four years from 28 September, 2018 to 27 September 2022 considering his leadership in administration, research and academy.

Social and Co-curricular
Dr. Howlader founded Gonotantrik Sikkhok Parishad (Awami followers) to create the opportunity for exercising the democracy at Sylhet Agricultural University by the teachers' community where he served as President for four times. Dr. Howlader is the member of several professional organizations including, Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) and Bangabandhu Krishibid Parishad. He served as President/Adviser/ Member of several Co-curricular and social organizations.

Personal
Dr. Howlader Happily married with Mrs. Arena Khanam. They are blessed with two sons, the elder son Mr. Imran, a BUET graduate, has been working in Bangladesh Civil Service and serving as Senior Assistant Superintedent of Police and the younger son Mr. Inteha, also a BUET graduate, has been working as an Assistant Director at Bangladesh Bank (The Central Bank of Bangladesh).
