Postdoctoral Fellowship in Forest Biodiversity and Ecosystem Science

Postdoctoral research was conducted on ‘Chronosequence of understory parasitic wasp assemblages in natural secondary and conifer plantation forests in satoyama landscape of Japan’. Braconid wasps were sampled with Malaise traps and identified to mostly genus level and in some cases to species level. Sampling was done at Ogawa site (secondary forests) and Satomi site (coniferous forests). The work provided me a lot of taxonomic skills and ecological insight on braconid parasitic wasps. The experience achieved through the project work is very useful for biodiversity conservation in natural ecosystems and restoring bio-control agents (IPM component) in crop ecosystems in Bangladesh.   

 

Doctor of Philosophy in Biological and Environmental Science

Doctoral research was conducted on ‘The importance of line thinning toward ecosystem management in Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica D. Don) plantations in northern Hyogo Prefecture, Japan’. Coleopteran beetles and hymenopteran wasps were sampled with Malaise traps, identified to family level. The work provided taxonomic and ecological knowledge and skills which are useful in selecting better pest management options as well as in implementing biodiversity conservation strategies for Bangladesh
