Biography
Dr. Mohammed Mahbub Iqbal is a Professor in the Department of Fish Biology and Genetics at Sylhet Agricultural University, where he has been a member of the Fisheries faculty since June 2008 (Joined as Assistant Professor). He earned his B.Sc. Fisheries (Honours) in 1990 (BAU), achieving an impressive 1st class 2nd position. Then he pursued a M.S. in Fish Biology and Limnology (BAU), which he completed in 1992 with securing 1st class 2nd position. In 1999, he was awarded the prestigious Monbukagakusho (MEXT) PhD fellowship to pursue a Doctorate in Fisheries Science at Hokkaido University, Japan. Following this, he completed his first postdoctoral research at Hokkaido University in 2000 and his second postdoctoral fellowship at Saga University, Japan, in 2001. He has served in administrative and academic positions i.e., Chairman of the Departments, Director- Sylhet Agricultural University Research System (SAURES). Previously, he worked as a Senior Scientific Officer at the WorldFish Center's Shrimp Quality Support Project (SQSP), funded by USAID, in Cox’s Bazar from 2006 to 2007. He also worked as a Senior Researcher with Sustainable Development Associates from 2007 to 2008. Additionally, he held the position of Senior Scientific Officer with the Louis Berger Group, Inc., USA, on the Shrimp Seal of Quality (SSOQ) Project funded by USAID from 2003 to 2005. Earlier, he worked as a Scientific Officer with the same organization from 2001 to 2003.
