Dr. Md. Mohan Mia was born into a muslim farming family in December 31, 1964 in the district of Brahmanbaria, Bangladesh. He is a Professor (Grade 1) in the Department of Genetics and Animal Breeding, Sylhet Agricultural University, Bangladesh, where he has been a faculty member since 1998. He completed B.Sc. A.H. (Hons.) from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, Bangladesh and secured first class third position. He completed M.Sc. (A.H.) in Animal Breeding from the same university and secured first class first position. He earned Ph.D. in Animal Breeding from the same university. From 1990 to 1998 he worked at Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute, Savar, Dhaka, Bangladesh as a Scientific Officer. He was promoted to Full Professor in 2003, and Professor Grade 1 in 2014. He has teaching and research experience of more than 34 years. His research interests are in the areas of genetics, animal breeding, animal reproduction, and conservation of animal genetic resources. He is the author of seven books published home and abroad including “Classical and Molecular Genetics” published by American Academic Press, New York, USA, 2016. Throughout his career, he has held significant administrative roles and has made substantial scholarly contributions. He was the founding Chairman of the Department of Genetics and Animal Breeding, founding Syndicate Member, founding Director (Planning and Development), and Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary, Animal and Biomedical Sciences, Sylhet Agricultural University, Sylhet. Dr. Md. Mohan Mia is married to Krishibid Sharifa Akter Begum. He has two children, Dr. Mashkura Afroz and Shadman Shahriar.
