Professor Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam was born on 1st July 1967 in a Muslim family at Dhanbari Upazila of Tangail District. His father's name is Abdul Aziz and mother's name is Mosiron. He started his academic learning from South Norilla Govt. Primary School and passed with a Talent pool scholarship then passed SSC during 1983 from Bhaighat High School, Dhanbari, Tangail. He passed HSC from Govt. Ashek Mahmud College, Jamalpur. He graduated from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh with DVM degree in 1989(held in 1991) and completed M. Sc. (Vet. Sc.) in Medicine from same university. Mr. Islam also completed Post Graduate Diploma in Information Technology (PGD in IT) degree having 1(One) Year duration. From May 1994, he started job at Upazila Veterinary Hospital under Directorate of Livestock Services (DLS) under a project. He has become a cadre officer (BCS-Livestock) by 19th special BCS in 1999. He has competed 27th foundation training course from Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre, Savar, Dhaka held from June 03, 2001 to September 30, 2001. Upto 18th June 2002 he worked as veterinary surgeon in upazila livestock office and on 19th June 2002 he joined as assistant professor in sylhet govt. veterinary college and continue to work. From 2nd November 2006 he worked as associate professor in Sylhet Agricultural University then from 2011 worked as Professor in the department of medicine. From college to university life he served additional charges as hall provost, proctor, departmental chairman, director, veterinary teaching hospital, chairman ICT cell, member of academic council, member of advance studies board, finance committee so on. He also worked as director, finance and accounts of SAU from July 2010 to May 2014. He acted as sub-project manager of ICT projects funded by HEQEP, UGC and visited Malysia, Singapore, China and South Korea to participate short training program. Dr. Islam visited different veterinary related universities like West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery sciences, Kolkata, Madras Veterinary College, Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Chennai, College of veterinary Science, Assam Agricultural University, Guwahati, Assam, India with different groups of students for internship program as coordinator of internship implementation committee. He involved in teaching profession from 2002 to till date where medium of instruction of delivering class lectures and student evaluation system are in English. Personally he is married and blessed with three daughters.
