Biography
Professor Dr. Md. Abu Sayeed was born on 5th November 1969 at Kalaichara of Santhia Upazila, Pabna. He is son of Moslem Uddin Khan and Hazera Begum. He completed his primary education from Kalaichara Primary School with Scholarship. Then he passed SSC from Pabna Zila School in 1984 securing Star Marks and Scholarship. He accomplished HSC from Pabna Edward College in 1986 with 1st Division. He obtained Bachelor and Master degree from Bangladesh Agricultural University with First Class. He received PhD degree from the same university in 2010. He started his career as Fisheries Biologist (1/10/1993–28/2/1994) in an ODA funded research project entitled Flood Action Plan-17. Then he worked for two and half years as Fisheries Extension Officer in the Department of Fisheries (DoF), Bangladesh. He also served for more than one year as Training Officer under the Mymensingh Aquaculture Extension Project Phase-II of DoF. Later he performed the duty of Upazila Fisheries Officer in the DoF at several stations from 1998 to 2012 and promoted as Assistant Director. During that period he completed his PhD degree with full funding from USDA. Then he joined at the Dept. of Fisheries Technology and Quality Control of Sylhet Agricultural University in the capacity of Associate Professor in 2012. He is now serving as a Professor at the same department since 2016. Professor Dr. Sayeed also worked as Chairman of the Department for four years. He held the position of Provost for more than two years and during that time he also served as Convener of Provost Council. He also performed the duty of Director (Transport) at Sylhet Agricultural University over a period of three years. Professor Sayeed has already implemented seven scientific projects funded by national and international agencies. He attended more than 100 seminar, workshop and symposium in home and abroad. He also went abroad to attend trainings. He is a life member of Bangladesh Fisheries Research Forum (BFRF) and Krishibid Institution of Bangladesh (KIB). He already supervised 20 MS students and another 10 students are doing their MS research under his supervision. He has experiences in PRA, SLA, project monitoring and evaluation, editorial experience of journal and reports etc. He published 53 scientific articles including 45 journal papers (International and National). He is married with Jahanara Ferdous and blessed with two sons ASM Jobayer Hossain, ASM Tahsinul Islam and daughter Jarin Tasnin Raiyan.
